# Influencer database or affiliate finder: what is the difference?

Facts about other tools come from their own sites, with the date we checked. [Our editorial policy](https://recruitaffiliates.ai/editorial-policy) · [About us](https://recruitaffiliates.ai/about).

In short

An influencer database is a searchable list of creators on a few social apps. You filter it by followers and audience. An affiliate finder starts from your rivals and finds the sites, channels and creators already promoting them. Modash is mainly a database. In a first search on 30 hand-picked Shopify brands, 64% of the people shown had a review, roundup or comparison page. Modash says it covers public profiles on three social apps and doesn't say it lists review sites.

An **influencer database** is a searchable list of creators, with follower counts and audience details you can filter. Influencity calls it "an aggregator directory that lists information about social media influencers" ([Influencity](https://influencity.com/blog/en/influencer-database)). An **affiliate finder** finds the people who already promote brands like yours, then helps you contact them. A database starts from the creator list. A finder starts from your rivals.

Both help you build a list. They answer different questions. A database asks, "Which creators match my filters?" A finder asks, "Who already sends buyers to my rivals?"

## Influencer database and affiliate finder side by side

The table uses Modash as the example database, because it is the one we compare most often. The Modash facts come from its public pages, read on 23 October 2026. The rest is our reading, and we sell a finder, so weigh it with that in mind.

| | Influencer database (example: Modash) | Affiliate finder |
|---|---|---|
| Where the search starts | Filters: followers, location, niche, audience | Your website and your rivals |
| Who it lists | Public profiles on three social apps | Websites, review pages, newsletters, podcasts and creators |
| What you check | Audience data and engagement for each profile | The page that shows they cover products like yours |
| Contact | Creator emails, a set number a month | An email found for each person, where one exists |
| Paying people | Fee, gift or commission, set by you | Usually commission, set by you |
| Best for | Choosing creators for posts and gifts | Building a list of people who already promote shops like yours |

Modash says it covers every public profile with over 1,000 followers on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and counts 380M+ creators ([Modash](https://www.modash.io/), 23 October 2026). Its filters cover follower counts and audience details such as age and language. It lists Essentials at $199 a month with 150 creator emails, and Performance at $499 with 400. It offers a 14-day trial with no card ([Modash pricing](https://www.modash.io/pricing), 23 October 2026). It also says it supports affiliate links and payouts. Its pricing page says affiliate management is only on Performance Annual and Enterprise, not Essentials. It also has Shopify tools for gifting and discount codes. ## What does an influencer database do well?

It sorts creators by numbers. Say you want 20 skincare creators on TikTok with 10,000 to 100,000 followers. A database gets you there fast, and its audience data shows who watches them. That helps when you plan to pay for posts or send gifts.

It has limits. Modash says it covers public profiles on three social apps. It doesn't say it lists blogs, review sites or podcasts. And a long list is not a short list. You still open each profile and judge the fit. Our guide to [finding micro influencers by hand](https://recruitaffiliates.ai/blog/find-micro-influencers) shows the 10-post check that works with any tool.

## What does an affiliate finder do well?

It is good at finding people who are already doing the job. An **affiliate** is paid a **commission**, a cut of each sale, on the sales they send you. The people most likely to say yes are the ones already writing about products like yours.

Who are they? We ran our own first search on 30 public Shopify brands, hand-picked by us, on 22 October 2026. It showed 2,924 people. Of those, 1,877 (64%) had a review or roundup page as their strongest page. An AI model read the title and address of 30 random rows and opened no pages, and it judged 9 of the 30 not to be promoters. So read the 64% as "has a review, roundup or comparison page". Our [write-up of that scan](https://recruitaffiliates.ai/blog/review-pages-are-64-percent-of-shopify-promoters) gives the method and limits.

An email address was on record for 916 of the 2,924 (31%). Those are emails found, not emails checked.

The point is this. A review page is not a social profile, so a social database would not show it. For how to find them by hand, see [finding competitors' affiliates](https://recruitaffiliates.ai/blog/find-competitors-affiliates).

## Which does a small Shopify brand need?

Our advice: start with the question, not the tool.

- **You want posts by a date.** Use a database, or search by hand. You will pay a fee or send product.
- **You want sales and a cost that follows results.** Use a finder, then a commission deal.
- **You have fewer than 20 creators on a list.** Use neither yet. Search by hand first. The [tools to find influencers](https://recruitaffiliates.ai/blog/tools-to-find-influencers) guide gives the prices and a test to run on any free trial.

If you want both jobs done, the database can pick creators for gifts and the finder can build the commission list. ## Where RecruitAffiliates.ai fits

RecruitAffiliates.ai is a finder, and our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. You enter your website. It suggests your rivals, then finds the websites, newsletters, podcasts and creators already covering shops like yours, on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok as well as the open web. Each one comes with the page that shows it. It looks up an email and checks it, so you get a [verified email](https://docs.recruitaffiliates.ai/credits#what-each-result-means).

AI drafts a personal first email. You approve it, and it sends from your own inbox.

It doesn't rank people by audience age or list every account on Instagram, so it isn't a creator analytics database. It also does not pay anyone or track sales, so you still need an affiliate tool.

Launch is $79 a month for one brand, with a 7-day free trial and no card.
