Affiliate software for SaaS: what to check before you buy

Affiliate software is the tool that tracks which sales an affiliate sent and works out what you owe them. An affiliate is someone with an audience who recommends your product and earns a commission, a cut of each sale. SaaS means software people pay for each month or year.

This page is a checklist, not a ranking. Eight checks tell you whether a tool fits your product. Vendor facts come from each vendor's own pricing page, read on 28 October 2026. Prices change, so open the live page before you decide. We make RecruitAffiliates.ai and AffiliateRail, so we describe both, AffiliateRail at the end. Our editorial policy says how we check and date facts.

What should you check before you buy?

Run every tool you look at through these eight checks. The thresholds are our advice, not a standard.

  1. Pricing model and billing. Is it a flat monthly fee, a cut of sales, or a quote after a demo? Which billing tool does it connect to?
  2. Revenue cap. What is the most affiliate revenue the plan tracks each month?
  3. Payouts. Can it pay by PayPal or Wise, and what does it charge?
  4. Refunds and holds. What happens if a customer refunds after you paid?
  5. Fraud. Does it catch self-referrals and fake sign-ups?
  6. Finding affiliates. Does the tool bring people in, or only track them?
  7. Trial. Can you test it on real sign-ups before you pay?
  8. Exit. Can you move your data and your affiliates out later?

8. ExitCan I export and move?Export, kept links and help moving in

Check 1: How does it charge?

Three pricing models exist. A flat fee is the same monthly price whatever your affiliates sell. A percentage fee takes a share of affiliate sales. A quote means you book a demo and hear the price afterwards.

Then check which billing tool it connects to. Tolt lists Stripe, Paddle and Chargebee, and FirstPromoter adds Recurly and Braintree (Tolt pricing, FirstPromoter pricing). AffiliateRail connects to Stripe or Paddle (AffiliateRail pricing).

Rewardful lists a 0% transaction fee on every plan and plans at $49, $99 and $149 or more a month. Other costs still apply, such as its optional managed payouts at a 3% processing fee (Rewardful pricing, read 28 October 2026). Tolt lists $99 and $199 a month plans, and a custom Enterprise plan above them (Tolt pricing, read 28 October 2026). PartnerStack shows no prices. Its page says the final plan and price are confirmed during a demo (PartnerStack pricing, read 28 October 2026).

Our advice: a flat fee is easiest to plan around, because the bill doesn't grow with your affiliates' success. With a quote-only vendor, get the number in writing before you invest time in setup. For the PartnerStack side of that choice, see PartnerStack alternatives.

Check 2: What does the revenue cap mean for you?

Most tools price by affiliate revenue, the sales your affiliates send in a month. A plan stops fitting you when you pass its limit.

ToolEntry planAffiliate revenue the entry plan covers
Rewardful$49 a monthUp to $7,500 a month
FirstPromoter$49 a monthUp to $5,000 a month
Tolt$99 a monthUp to $20,000 a month
Reditus (Growth)$99 a month, billed yearlyThe page says "$60K ARR", which this post doesn't define

Sources: Rewardful, FirstPromoter, Tolt and Reditus, all read on 28 October 2026. Reditus lists $99 a month when billed yearly. Its cap is not a monthly figure, so don't compare that row to the others.

Here is a made-up example. You plan 40 affiliate sales a month at $50. That is $2,000 of affiliate revenue a month, well under every cap above. At 500 sales a month you reach $25,000. That is past the caps on Rewardful, FirstPromoter and Tolt, so the cheapest plans no longer fit. Work out your own number before you pick a tier.

Check 3: Payouts and fees

Paying a hundred people by hand is slow. Look for mass payouts, which send many payments in one batch.

Rewardful lists PayPal mass payouts and Wise bulk payouts on all three plans, and optional Managed Payouts at a 3% processing fee (Rewardful pricing). FirstPromoter lists mass payouts by PayPal, Wise, Stripe, crypto and bank transfer on all three plans (FirstPromoter pricing). Tolt says its auto payouts carry a 2% processing fee (Tolt pricing). Reditus lists a 5% fee when you pay commissions by card, or 2% by invoice, charged on top of the commissions (Reditus pricing). All read on 28 October 2026.

So the monthly price is not the whole cost. Let's say you pay out $2,000 in commissions in a month. A 2% fee is $40 and a 5% fee is $100. Ask each vendor for the fee in writing, and check which payout method it covers. If you pay affiliates in many countries, ask about tax forms too.

Check 4: Refunds and holds

A clawback is money you take back after you have already paid it. It's awkward, so the best fix is to avoid it. Hold each commission until your refund window ends.

Rewardful's default pending period is 30 days, and it suggests matching it to your refund policy. A refund before payment adjusts the commission automatically. After payment, the merchant handles the overpayment manually (Rewardful, automated refund handling, read 28 October 2026). Our advice: ask every vendor what its tool does after payment, because a hold only protects you before it.

For commission rates and cookie windows, read what SaaS affiliate programs say they pay.

Check 5: How does it handle fraud?

A common kind of fraud is a self-referral, where someone signs up through their own link to earn a commission on their own plan. Ask what the tool flags and whether you review a payment before it goes out.

Tolt lists "Radar" fraud protection on Pro and Enterprise, not Growth. The page says it holds self-referrals, duplicate IPs and paid-ad clicks for review before payday (Tolt pricing, read 28 October 2026). Reditus lists fraud detection on its Growth plan (Reditus pricing, read 28 October 2026). Rewardful lists self-referral fraud detection on all plans (Rewardful pricing). FirstPromoter lists self-referral detection and reCAPTCHA on all plans (FirstPromoter pricing). Ask each what happens to a flagged payment. Coupon sites can also take credit they didn't earn, which is a different problem. See how to stop them.

Check 6: Does it find affiliates, or only track them?

Most of the five we read track and pay. A program with no affiliates tracks nothing.

Some vendors do offer help. PartnerStack's Launch plan includes marketplace access, which it describes as getting discovered by active B2B partners (PartnerStack pricing). Reditus lists an Affiliate Finder on its Growth plan, and a marketplace listing from Scale Up. Its done-for-you service lists "From 2,750/mo" with a six-month minimum. It also lists a 2,500 launch package, both without a currency symbol on the page (Reditus pricing). Both pages read 28 October 2026. For how that stacks up against doing the search yourself, see our Reditus comparison.

Do a short manual search before you pay for any marketplace. Open the review sites, newsletters and YouTube channels that cover your rivals. How to find affiliates for your SaaS walks through it, and affiliate marketing for SaaS covers the whole program. RecruitAffiliates.ai finds and emails those people. It doesn't track sales or pay anyone, so it pairs with whichever tracker you choose.

Check 7: Trial length and real sign-ups

Tolt lists a two-week free trial with no card (Tolt pricing). FirstPromoter lists a two-week trial with no card (FirstPromoter pricing). Reditus lists two weeks, no card (Reditus pricing). Rewardful lists a two-week trial on every plan and doesn't say about a card (Rewardful pricing). PartnerStack shows a demo instead (PartnerStack pricing). All read 28 October 2026.

Two weeks is short if your own product has a long trial. Line up three real affiliates before you start. Set a test commission, run a sign-up and a refund, and see the payout screen. If you only click around, you learn little.

Check 8: Can you leave later?

Ask three things. Can you export affiliates, links and commissions? Do affiliates keep their links if you switch? Does the vendor help you move in? Reditus lists free migration on every plan (Reditus pricing). Tolt says it will bring over affiliates, links, customers and commissions (Tolt pricing). Both read 28 October 2026. FirstPromoter mentions only a historical Stripe import, and we did not see migration help listed for Rewardful, so ask them. Switching later costs time, so a vendor that makes leaving easy is a safer bet.

A short buyer's rule

Pick the cheapest tool that passes all eight checks at the revenue you expect in a year, not today. Then test it. If two tools tie, pick the one with the clearer refund and fraud answers.

AffiliateRail is our tracking tool. You connect your own PayPal or Wise account, so payouts leave your account, not ours, and it takes 0% of every payout. On Launch it builds a payout file and you upload it. Grow and above call your PayPal or Wise account directly. Plans are banded by what affiliates earn you: up to $10,000, $20,000 or $50,000 a month. Founding prices are $29, $59 and $99 a month, for the first ten customers. The usual prices are $59, $89 and $179. Every plan comes with 14 days free and no card (AffiliateRail pricing, read 28 October 2026). On refunds, its page says upgrades, cancellations and refunds flow back on their own and correct the commission. We made it, so weigh that.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best affiliate software for SaaS?

It depends on your revenue, your payout needs and whether you want help finding affiliates. We don't rank tools. Use the eight checks, then trial the two that pass.

How much does SaaS affiliate software cost?

The five vendor lists we read start at $49 a month and run to $199, with custom plans above. AffiliateRail's founding price is $29. PartnerStack shows no price. Payout fees can add 2% to 5% of commissions on some tools.

Do I need affiliate software or can I use a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet can work for a handful of affiliates. Tracking links, attributing sign-ups and paying by batch get slow past that.

Does affiliate software find affiliates for me?

Mostly no. Most of the five we read track and pay. A few add a marketplace or a finder. Plan to recruit separately.

Can I switch tools later?

Two of the five tools we read list migration help. It still takes work, so ask about export and migration before you sign.
