Shopify affiliate apps compared: what each one does for finding affiliates
A Shopify affiliate app does two jobs. It tracks the sales your affiliates send, which are called referred sales, and it pays their commission. Most apps do far less to find good affiliates for you. For a first program, start on a free plan. UpPromote and GoAffPro both have one. Then add a separate way to find people. Choose the app for tracking and fraud controls, and plan separately for who joins.
An affiliate is anyone with an audience who sends you buyers and earns a commission, a cut of each sale.
On 26 October 2026 we read the Shopify App Store listing for five apps, plus the maker's price page for UpPromote, GoAffPro and Refersion. Social Snowball's prices come from its listing. Collabs is read from Shopify's Help pages. We read some pages again on 27 and 28 October, as the Sources list says. We did not install or test any of them. This is a sourced read, not a hands-on review. We picked five well-known apps that publish their prices and have a Shopify listing. It is not a full list of apps.
We make RecruitAffiliates.ai, which finds affiliates for any app, so we cover what each app does about finding people. Every fact about another tool comes from its own pages.
How the five apps compare
| App | Rating (reviews) | Paid plans from | Free option | How it helps you find affiliates | Fraud and leak controls |

| GoAffPro | 4.6 (951) | $49 a month | Free Hobby plan, unlimited affiliates (recommended for fewer than 100 daily orders) | An affiliate portal (basic on Hobby, branded on Premium); Premium adds multiple groups and sign-up pages | Listing lists "Fraud protection" and "Maturation periods" as features; you can review, approve or reject commissions before payout (developer reply on the listing) |
| Social Snowball | 4.6 (211) | $249 a month, plus 3% of affiliate revenue | None listed | Turns customers into affiliates after they buy; creator search only on the $899 Blizzard plan | Snow Day plan lists "Prevent fraud & code leaks"; the listing also lists "Maturation periods" |
| Refersion | 4.8 (495) | $39 a month, plus 3% | Free marketplace listing only; tracking and payouts need a paid plan | A marketplace listing; the listing says it gives "personalized affiliate suggestions" | You review each sale by hand, or sales auto-approve after 90 days by default |

Ratings and review counts are as shown on each Shopify listing page on 28 October 2026. Sources, all read on 26 October 2026 unless noted. UpPromote: Shopify listing and pricing page (pricing re-read 27 October). GoAffPro: Shopify listing and pricing page (pricing re-read 27 and 28 October). Social Snowball: Shopify listing only. Refersion: Shopify listing, pricing page and help article (pricing and help re-read 27 October). Collabs: Shopify listing and Help pages (listing and payments page re-read 27 October). Links are under Sources. Prices change, so check the app's page before you buy.
Read the table in two steps. First look at the last two columns. They show what the app does for you beyond tracking. Creator search means a tool for finding creators on social apps. A leaked code is a discount code shared outside the affiliate's own audience. A coupon site is one example. Then look at the price. A cheap app that tracks well can still leave you with no affiliates.
What each app does about finding affiliates
UpPromote gives you a sign-up page on every plan. From the Growth plan you can list your program in its marketplace. Creator Discovery is a paid add-on. It searches Instagram, TikTok and YouTube (UpPromote pricing, recruitment docs, Shopify listing, read 26 October 2026). UpPromote's own approval and fraud settings are covered in screening applicants from the UpPromote marketplace.
GoAffPro gives you an affiliate portal, and its free Hobby plan allows unlimited affiliates. GoAffPro recommends Hobby for stores with fewer than 100 daily orders and Premium above that. Premium adds a branded portal plus multiple groups and sign-up pages. Premium comes with a free trial (GoAffPro pricing, read 28 October 2026). We found no marketplace or influencer search on its pricing page or listing.
Social Snowball works on your customers first. It turns buyers into affiliates after a purchase. Creator search and outreach is listed only under the top plan (Shopify listing, read 26 October 2026).
Refersion has a free marketplace listing where creators can find you. Reviewing applicants, tracking and payouts need a paid plan. Its listing also says it gives personalized affiliate suggestions (Shopify listing, pricing, read 26 October 2026).
Shopify Collabs lets you invite creators and accept applications. Shopify's help page says "Collabs isn't accepting new creator signups at this time". That limits how many new creators it can show you (Shopify Help Center, Shopify listing, read 26 October 2026).
Do any of the apps find affiliates for you?
We read the pages listed under Sources for each app. None of those pages describes searching blogs, review sites or podcasts that write about your rivals. Refersion's listing does say it gives "personalized affiliate suggestions" and "matching across the web and Marketplace". It does not say how it picks them. Marketplaces list people who chose to join. UpPromote's creator search covers Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. We cannot tell from these pages whether a blogger who writes "best of" lists would show up in any of them.
So the choice splits into two jobs. One is tracking sales and paying commission, and the five apps do it. The other is finding and contacting affiliates, which takes a recruitment tool or your own time. For that job, ask where each person comes from and whether you can see the page.
Our wider guide on affiliate platforms for consumer brands covers tools outside Shopify as well. For the steps from install to first affiliates, read how to set up a Shopify affiliate program.
What to check about fraud and leaked codes
Pick an app that lets you hold commission before payout. None of the pages we read describes a self-referral check, so ask each maker. What each app says about holds:
- Collabs: holds commission for 30 days by default. You can set 1 to 90 days (Collabs payments page).
- Refersion: lets you review each sale by hand. It auto-approves pending sales after 90 days by default (Refersion help).
- GoAffPro: its developer says you can review, approve or reject commissions before payouts. The listing also lists "Maturation periods" (Shopify listing).
- Social Snowball: the listing lists "Maturation periods" as a feature (Shopify listing).
The GoAffPro and Social Snowball listings do not say how long a hold can be. Then ask each maker how it handles three things.
- Self-referral. Can an affiliate buy through their own link? Does the app match the customer email to the affiliate's?
- Leaked codes. What happens when a code lands on a coupon site? UpPromote lists anti-leak discount links, fraud detection and block lists. Social Snowball lists "Eliminate affiliate code leaks & coupon abuse". Neither page says how those work.
- A holding period. Can you wait until your return window ends before commission is paid? A 30-day return window needs a hold of at least 30 days.
Our guide on affiliate fraud in a Shopify program names six kinds. It also gives a monthly check you can do in Shopify admin.
One caution on reviews. Ratings count reviews, not fit. Read the recent reviews on each app's Shopify listing before you commit, and test with a few affiliates first.
Which app to pick
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New brand, no affiliates yet | UpPromote free or GoAffPro free (Hobby suits under 100 daily orders) | A free plan lets you test the offer before you pay |
| Brand with fans asking to promote you | Social Snowball ($249 a month entry price), or a free plan | Customers become affiliates after purchase |
| Brand that wants creator search inside the app | UpPromote with the add-on | Search Instagram, TikTok and YouTube |
| Brand already inside Shopify admin | Shopify Collabs | Free to install, with payouts through Shopify. It is not taking new creator signups, so use it for people you already know |
| Brand that wants a marketplace listing | Refersion | Free marketplace listing, and you can review each sale by hand |
These are suggestions for different situations, not a ranking. Each of the five lists tracking. The harder part is who joins. Whichever you pick, you still need a way to find the right people.
How to fill the app with good affiliates
Use the app you already have, and add a way to find people. RecruitAffiliates.ai finds the websites, blogs, review sites, podcasts and creators already promoting your rivals. It ranks the best fits first and shows the page where it found each one. It looks up their email and shows whether each address was checked (what each result means). Then you invite them to join through your app's sign-up page. The 7-day free trial includes 20 email lookups and needs no card.
Example: your first 30 days with one app
This is an illustration with made-up numbers, not real results. Say you pick a free plan and a brand that sells candles.
- Days 1 to 3: set a 15% commission, a 30-day hold, and your sign-up page.
- Days 4 to 10: use a finding tool to build a list of sites that already write about rival candles. Invite the best 40.
- Days 11 to 30: say 6 join and 2 send a sale.
Expect a slow start. Plan for many invitees not to reply.
Decision rule: on day 30, keep the affiliates who sent a sale or posted your link. Invite 40 more of the same kind. If none posted, change the offer before you change the app.
Frequently asked questions
Can I run an affiliate program on Shopify for free?
Yes. UpPromote has a free plan up to $3,000 of referred sales a month. GoAffPro has a free Hobby plan with unlimited affiliates, recommended for stores with fewer than 100 daily orders. Shopify Collabs is free to install, with a 2.9% fee on automatic payments. Refersion's marketplace listing is free, but tracking and payouts need a paid plan.
How much does a Shopify affiliate app cost?
Read between 26 and 28 October 2026, paid plans started at $29.99 a month for UpPromote and $39 plus 3% for Refersion. GoAffPro started at $49. Social Snowball started at $249 plus 3% of affiliate revenue.
How do I stop affiliates leaking discount codes?
Use an app with anti-leak controls. Give each affiliate their own code. Check which codes are used most. Our fraud guide shows a monthly check for a small program.
Do I need a separate tool to find affiliates?
Usually, yes. Shopify affiliate apps track sales and pay commission. In the listings we read, their finding tools are sign-up pages and marketplaces, plus some creator search. A separate tool searches the web for people already writing about your rivals.
